Play Therapy is a research based and effective therapeutic approach.
This approach focuses on meeting the child where they are developmentally and utilizing their natural language of play to help work through difficulties and teach new skills. Toys are purposefully selected and placed within the playroom. Examples of things you may find in a therapeutic playroom include: puppets, art supplies, a sandtray and miniatures, a bop bag (punching bag), nurturing toys, sensory based toys, musical instruments, doll houses and figurines, and mastery toys, just to name a few.
For more information on this approach visit the website for the Association for Play Therapy.
We are also able to support caregivers/children with an attachment based form of play therapy called Theraplay. This approach helps to address concerns associated with adoption, parent/caregiver loss, and regulation disorders.
